Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 October 2026
Laurent & Sons Pty Ltd ("we", "our", or "us"), trading as WakeRup, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the WakeRup mobile application (the "App").
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information: When you create an account, your email address and password are handled by Firebase Authentication. If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email only if you choose to share them (Apple may give us a private relay address instead). Your email is never shown to other users.
- Profile data: Your display name, the preset avatar character you choose, and a friend code other people can use to find you. We never ask for a photo.
- Wake-up data: Your chosen challenges, alarm times and days, any alarms you add yourself, the wake-up task you pick, when you confirmed you were up or missed a morning, the wake-up times you log in the daily check-in, and your streak.
- Social data: Your friend connections, friend requests, and the people you've blocked (kept private to your account).
Information collected automatically
- Push token: If you allow notifications, we store your device's Apple push token so we can tell you about friend requests. Nothing else is collected automatically.
- The App contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs. A short log of alarm events is kept on your device to help diagnose missed alarms. It stays on your device unless you choose to send us a problem report from the App, in which case the report includes that log along with your app version, device model and iOS version, so we can see what happened.
Information we do NOT collect
- We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone or location. The camera is used only while you do the barcode wake-up task, and the motion sensor only while you do the shake task — both only if you choose those tasks. Nothing from the camera is stored or uploaded.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell your data.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Run your alarms and track your challenge progress
- Back up your progress so it survives a reinstall or a new phone
- Show your friends your display name, avatar, streak and whether you're up today
- Send push notifications about friend requests
- Answer support requests and communicate with you about the App
- Provide, operate, maintain, improve and develop WakeRup and our other products and services, including research and analysis of how the App is used
- Keep the App and its users safe, including detecting and preventing fraud, abuse and misuse
- Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our terms
- For other legitimate business purposes connected with running WakeRup
We don't use your data for third-party advertising.
3. Data Storage & Security
Your alarms and progress live on your device so they work offline. A copy of that progress (challenges, streak, alarm settings, your own alarms and your wake-up history) is backed up to your account in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication), hosted in the United States. Other users can't read it. It can be accessed by you, by authorised WakeRup staff, and by our service providers, as described in this policy. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by Google.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in these circumstances:
- With your friends: Your display name, avatar, streak and whether you woke up today are visible to people you have added as friends.
- Within WakeRup: Authorised staff may access account data, including individual accounts, for the purposes described in section 2.
- Aggregated information: We may use and share aggregated or de-identified information that doesn't identify you, for example in marketing, reporting or research.
- Business transfers: If WakeRup or Laurent & Sons is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
- Service providers: Google Firebase stores and authenticates your account, and Apple delivers push notifications. They process data on our behalf.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, regulation, or legal process.
5. Your Rights & Choices
- Access & export: You can see your data in the App at any time, or ask us for a copy.
- Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data in the App (Home → your avatar → Profile → Delete account), or by contacting us. In-app deletion is immediate. Email requests are processed within 30 days.
- Notifications: You can turn off push notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Friends: You choose who you add as a friend and can remove a friend at any time.
6. European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Legal basis: We process your data based on your consent (account creation), contractual necessity (providing the App), and legitimate interest (improving the App and preventing abuse).
- Right to access: You can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: You can update your profile information within the App at any time.
- Right to erasure: You can delete your account and all data via Home → your avatar → Profile → Delete account, or by contacting us.
- Right to data portability: You can request your data in a structured, machine-readable format by contacting us at the email below.
- Right to object: You can object to processing based on legitimate interest by contacting us.
- Right to restrict processing: You can request we limit how we use your data while a complaint is being resolved.
- Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data is transferred to and processed in the United States (Google Firebase). We rely on Google's Standard Contractual Clauses for lawful data transfer.
7. California Users (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to know: You can request what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- Right to delete: You can request deletion of your personal information (available in-app via Home → your avatar → Profile → Delete account).
- Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
- Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
8. Australian Users
Laurent & Sons Pty Ltd is an Australian company. We comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you have a complaint about our handling of your personal information.
9. Children's Privacy
WakeRup is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it promptly.
10. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data immediately (in-app deletion) or within 30 days (email request), except where retention is required by law.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or by email. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
